A large-scale animated history of shifting boundaries in the southwest sets the stage for in-depth exploration of New Mexico’s political, cultural, and geographical landscapes.

This large-scale, environmental interactive tells the sweeping, epic story of the shifting geographical borders, cultures, and events that defined this region and, ultimately, the state of New Mexico. Engaging large groups as well as individuals, this installation features a looping animation that shows the changing cultural and political geography that eventually became New Mexico. For visitors who want to dive deeper into the story, adjacent interactive kiosks describe a timeline of key events, peoples, and places in the region, with supporting imagery and interpretive text.

    Press & Awards

“New Museum Showcases New Mexico’s Colorful History,” The Associated Press, Deborah Baker, May 14, 2009

Interactive displays are an important part of the museum’s mix... [including] a sophisticated, bilingual exhibit on the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which ended the Mexican-American War and made New Mexico a U.S. territory. Highlighted portions of the treaty link to interviews with historians.
