Located on the same campus as the National Institutes of Health, where scientists conduct cutting-edge medical research, this gallery takes a different path to promote the same mission. The Native Voices gallery celebrates the story of Native Peoples’ concepts of health and healing with a chorus of voices, coming from Native Americans, Native Alaskans, and Native Hawaiians, sharing perspectives on traditional beliefs and practices. As visitors journey through the exhibit, they will encounter interactive kiosks with content-rich timelines, dynamic visualizations with a montage of archival images, and touchscreen towers packed with oral history videos. Nature, community, and spirit are interconnected with Native ideas of health—this exhibit borrows from such traditional motifs to share the enduring wisdom of Native medicine.
